DES DARCY MEMORIAL MEDAL

The stories that could be told about the late Des. Darcy would fill this website over and over again.

A larger-than-life character, Darcy was a sporting administrator of enormous capacity, specialising in the fields of football, racing and cricket.

The spectacular success of his long secretarial association with the former V.C.F.L. president Allan Dunstan has been well documented, and is written indelibly into North-Central history.

As secretary and president respectively, they led the Donald Football Club when it won its triple premiership in 1963.

A decade later, holding those same positions in the administration of the North-Central League, they teamed with Merv. Young (Mallee League president), Frank Tuck (District coach) and Maurie Wood (team captain) to set up North-Central's "finest hour" - the 1974 Country Championships victory.

Darcy died in 1980. The Des Darcy Memorial Medal, for the best and fairest player in the North-Central League's senior grand final each year, fittingly perpetuates his memory.
